ABOUT BETHANI

Bethani has been entertaining audiences in the Southwest for the past decade with her fresh renditions of jazz standards. Under the name Beth Ullman she released her first CD, "Aren't We the Lucky Ones" in 1994 to enthusiastic reviews from JAZZTIMES and CADENCE, who declares that "she has an absolutely exquisite instrument" (Ellen Colison). In 1993 she was voted Best Jazz Vocalist by the Austin Players and Critics Poll, and her band Countenance was named a finalist in Musician Magazine's Best Of The Unsigned Bands in 1990.

Bethani's second CD Go Within was released on December 17th, 1998 in Austin, Texas on KUT FM public radio hosted by John Aielli on Eklectikos. During the three hour interview with Bethani and co-producer Darryl Dunn, the CD was played in its entirety. Aielli gave his thumbs up saying "Bethani, I think you've got a winner."

The album features a unique blend of new age and pop styles of mostly original spiritual/meditation music sung by Bethani, who also plays keyboards and recorded most of the background vocals. Darryl Dunn arranged, co-produced and recorded the CD. He also plays keys/synthesizers on the disc. The music has been compared to the style of music produced by new age artists such as Enya.

The CD has seen brisk sales since its release mid December. Go Withinwas the number one selling Texas Artist CD in Austin's Tower Records for the week before Christmas and 7th in the store's entire stock. At Austin's Waterloo Records it continues to be a favorite and made the Top Ten Selling Texas Artists list during the same time period. In the first month of its release "Go Within" sold 1,000 copies in Austin alone.

In addition to writing, singing and recording original music, Bethani is the Commercial Voice Instructor at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas, and is Music Director of First Church of Religious Science in Austin. In 2005 she appeared at a number of Unity churches throughout the U.S. including Unity Village, Unity of Dallas, Unity of Overland Park, Unity New York and will be guest artist at Unity Houston in 2006. Mile Hi Church in Denver has just released a CD Transcendence, with a recording of her original song "Lead Me to the Light," and Warner Bros. Pub. released a choral rendition of her classic song "It is Enough" in 2001. Guest appearances frequently include a solo concert after services, and she offers her dynamic, innovative vocal workshop "Sing Your Soul's Song," based on her studies with 10-time Grammy winner Bobby McFerrin, to church choirs and community groups as well. However, performance is central to Bethani's artistry. "There's a lifeline between me and my audience. I like to get inside the music and take them with me."
